Workingmoms.ca - Daycare Programs
With the kids almost out of school, it's hard to choose the right daycare solution.  We've included some tips for hiring a nanny, given to us by WeeCare Placement Agency and full-time and summer program options from our partners.
Tips For Hiring a Nanny

We know that hiring a nanny is not an easy task.  It takes time, energy, and a lot of emotional anguish.  It is one of the most important decisions you will ever have to make, as they will be looking after your most important treasure - your child.

The rule of thumb when hiring a nanny is to give yourself time.  Make a comprehensive list of questions, as you have to do whatever it takes to make absolutely certain this is the right person for your family.

Open ended questions, what if scenarios, and questions that avoid the yes/no answer give you the best response to your interviewing inquisition.

While you are asking the questions, give the potential nanny time to respond.  Let her think about each question. Your job is to control the interview, to guide it along, and to gather information.

For most people setting up an interview time when your spouse and children will be around works best. It gives you the opportunity to watch how the caregiver interacts with your child and allows for a second opinion when it comes time to collaborate on the interview and decision to hire.

The good nannies go very fast.  The salary for a nanny varies.  For a 10 hour day, 5 days/week, a live in nanny typically makes between $1000 - $1200 net/month.  A live out nanny earns anywhere from $1500 - $2100 net/month.  Usually, the nannies who drive are on the upper end of that spectrum.

Checking references is a must. The agency will provide you with the number so you can also ask your specific questions that apply directly to your family, your situation and your needs.

Good luck with your nanny search!

Sincerely,

Cathy Lepiane
